Why do so many wrestler's have long hair?

Outside of wrestling, it's normal for guys to have short hair and women to have long hair. It sure isn't that way in the WWE. In the WWE, men having longer hair is considered normal. I think the wrestler's look damned sexy with long hair. But why is this? Why do wrestlers have long hair? What wrestler brought this into style as far as wrestling goes? It's almost like a general wrestling style that's been in for a very long time.
