Should i highlight my hair...?

ok so i've always wanted to highlight my hair but wasnt sure what color would look good on me. i'm black (dark-skinned) with long black hair. I'm not sure if i should do medium brown high lights or red high lights...or should i leave it alone and just get my hair styled? and im thinking about cutting my hair shoulder length or shorter...im getting tired of long hair...so much work...what do u guys think? please help!!

i think you should cut it short, like a shoulder-lengthed bob and get reddish brown highlights or both red and brown. i think that would look really cute.

It's really hard to give advice without knowing what you look like, so what I would suggest is that if you are sick of long hair - then cut it - definately. As far as how short and whether the highlights should be brown or red, a lot of that is personal taste. Why not ask your hairdresser? If you don't have one, ask someone who has nice hair and you like their cut. Tell them you like their hair and ask for the name of their hairdresser. They will be flattered, and you will find a good hairdresser. Also, when you go to the salon, ask for a consultation. Even if you have to pay a few bucks, it is better than going in and getting your hair done and not be happy. Good luck and remember, your hair always looks better when you are smiling!!

i love black hair, it's really pretty. i say just leave it black unless you get a little red tint in it, that would look good. you should cut it with lots of layers around your shoulders and get some bangs with a really good straightener. curling it is reeally nice too! try both looks and see which you like best. good luck girl:)

if you want a big change thats not too outrageous i would get:

brown high lights (dark brown)

hair cut to your collar bone and bangs

a big change thats funky:

red high lights

and colllar bone with bangs

a small change:

an inch or 2 cut off and layers
